Is Fluid Compute the next thing? 🚀☁️ #73
Vercel brings in something in the middle of Servers and Serverless
In the previous issue, Serverless Containers Framework makes a debut 🚀☁️ #72, we looked into the new Serverless Containers Framework from Serverless Inc.
Vercel launched something called Fluid compute; wait, what’s this? Vercel is bringing the best of the server-based approach for a cost efficiency along with a runtime power, best of a Developer Experience (DevX) and security of Serverless. As Vercel calls it - the power of Servers in the Serverless way, which additionally addresses the Cold Start problem and having a function ready for execution.
⭐ Pick of the month
This month’s Pick is “Amazon EventBridge“.
Arpad Toth writes about Masking sensitive data in real-time with AWS serverless services with an EDA approach and how EventBridge is pivotal to Malice detected PII data.
Understand about AWS Fargate on a Budget by Danielle Heberling that explains about Fargate spot instances and combining it with EventBridge scheduler to shut down when there isn’t any usage.

🚀 AWSome content to learn from

Michael Ortiz authors a guide to AWS Step Function Workflow Orchestration which dives into the capabilities of Step Functions from basic parallel/choice state to data transfer between states (JSONata included) and variables.
Mario Bittencourt dives into Step Functions in 2025: JSONata that explains why JSONata brings in a better DevX along with variables which favors the fact about true orchestration with less code.
Optimizing Amazon CloudWatch Costs for High-Traffic Lambda Functions with Advanced Logging Controls by Matheus das Mercês focuses on while logging is important, it is also important to log right to avoid huge costs on CloudWatch logs.
Jimmy Dahlqvist’s blog about PEP and PDP for Secure Authorization with AVP, which covers how Amazon Verified Permissions could be leveraged as a policy system and integrated with Cognito authenticated API Gateway.
Yan Cui shares his first impression of Serverless Containers Framework and how it uses ALB instead of API Gateway, does the infra setup without the hassle of switching Function with containers with Fargate, but comes with 2 images.
David Linthicum brings to light that Serverless was not the cure-all that does a reality-check of serverless - cost, limitations, less efficient debugging and how a hybrid approach is the right fit for most workloads.
Jones Zachariah Noel N (author) takes a dig at the fact that you are a co-owner who secures your workloads with Serverless, reflecting from the shared responsibility model to ways as a dev to secure Serverless applications.
